Acer glabrum

Acer glabrum - Rocky Mountain Maple
Railroad Canyon, Black Range - June 9, 2019

There are three species of Maple in the Black Range.  One of the three (A. grandidentatum) does not have compound leaves.  As the name implies, this is a species of the west - see BONAP map to the right.  Its range extends northward through British Columbia to the panhandle of Alaska and southward into Chihuahua.  There are from four to six varieties of this species, some are treated as subspecies.
