Ambrosia monogyra

This species is also known as Cheesebush and Singlewhorl Burrobrush.  It was first described as Hymenoclea monogyra by Torrey and Asa Gray in 1849.  As is typical of the species, this specimen was found on the bank of a wash in the San Andres Mountains.  It is a species of the arid regions of North America, being found in California, Arizona, Texas, New Mexico, maybe in western Nevada, Baja California, Baja California Sur, Sonora, Sinaloa, and Chihuahua.
