Ceanothus fendleri - Fendler’s ceanothus

There ar e three species of Ceanothus in the Black Range.  As can be seen on the BONAP map to the right, within the United States this is a species of the mid to southern Rockies.   In Mexico, it is found in Chihuahua, Coahuila, and Sonora.  Typically it is found at elevations between 1400 and 2700 meters.  Asa Gray described the species from a specimen collected east of Santa Fe in 1847 by Augustus Fendler (see image at the bottom of this page).
