While on a walk in the Percha Box, east of Hillsboro, on September 4, 2016 we found this specimen of Maurandya antirrhiniflora, Little Snapdragon Vine. Other Common English Names for this species include Roving Sailor, Climbing Snapdragon, and Snapdragon Vine.
This species is sometimes referred to as Maurandella antirrhiniflora. Scientific synonyms include Asarina antirrhiniflora and Antirrhinum maurandioides (Asa Gray). It ranges south into Mexico. In the United States it is found in the southwest, see BONAP map to the right. Light green indicates that the species is native to and not rare within, the county specified. BONAP names the species Maurandella antirrhiniflora, the genus is monotypic.
This species is a larval host for the Common Buckeye butterfly. The specimen shown below was collected by Edward Palmer in April 1908 near Chihuahua, Chihuahua, Mexico.
