Varied Thrush, Ixoreus naevius
Portland, Oregon, USA - January 13, 2008
Note at the time: Today I ventured forth to the backyard, in the course of the arduous journey I encountered this Varied Thrush. Varied Thrushes sometimes visit the backyard during the winter. I recognize that their range extends southward to California (USA) but to me they are the epitome of the Northwestern forest bird. I have typically seen them on the forest floor, especially in the shadows. When they come to the backyard -- they are more likely to be in the open -- a real treat.
